Dear Friends,
What follows is a continuation of notes I made on my coast-to-coast travels.
Mellow Yellowknife
Yellowknife is beautiful. I can tell you how I know that Yellowknife is a great place to live. There are all kinds of towns of 17,000 where everyone wants out. No one wants out of Yellowknife. The locals just love it there.
The Wild Cat Café is the oldest restaurant in Yellowknife and an attraction. I got booked there for a free dinner. Also, the Wild Cat bought my CD and played it while I was eating.
I was also booked to play at The Festival of the Midnight Sun, in a park at 1:30 PM in the afternoon. For this I was paid $100. And the booker bought my CD.
I must have done well. I was asked to play an extra 15 minutes after my scheduled time was done.
There really is no midnight sun in Yellowknife, not even on the longest day of the year, but it's close. The sun was going down at close to eleven while I was there, and it never got really dark.
On the Monday night at 1:00 AM Mountain Time, the Frontier Buslines bus that I was on parted Yellowknife. On Wednesday at nearly 6 PM Pacific Time, I got off the city bus at the University of British Columbia where I was stationed for the first part of my Vancouver trip. Nothing like 42 hours on a bus. Nothing. NOTHING, I SAY! (Jeff weeps uncontrollably in the corner.)
Until my next letter,
Jeff Stone
